Longsa, 18 August (MTNews): In an earnest ceremony today, a guest house was formally inaugurated at Peniel Prayer Home, Longsa Village, in memory of Late NI Jamir’s wife, Mrs Yashikala. The inauguration was marked by a solemn prayer led by Rev Supongchiten, Pastor of Longsa Baptist Arogo.
The guest house was generously donated by the daughters and “tamo” (daughters-in-law) of the late NI Jamir and Yashikala. A testament to their legacy, this act of kindness aims to provide a sanctuary for those seeking solace and refuge in the Prayer Home. Alongside the guest house, two additional houses in the Prayer Home, also sponsored by the family of the late NI Jamir, were inaugurated.
Late NI Jamir and his wife, Yashikala, were parents to 9 children—6 daughters and 3 sons. Yashikala, who entered into matrimony with NI Jamir in 1943 at the age of 23, left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she touched. Born on 9 April 1920 to Mr Aonungshu and Mrs Teyonglepla, she peacefully passed away on 19 October 2017 at the age of 97.
Yashikala was a woman of remarkable talents and virtue. Her life story resonated with love, passion, humility, wisdom, devotion to God, a strong work ethic, and notable skill in handicrafts. She fostered harmonious relationships with everyone she encountered, consistently striving to uplift the community around her.
In recognition of her outstanding character and accomplishments, Yashikala was honored with the “Best Mother Award” by Watsü Mungdang, the apex women’s body of the Ao Nagas in 2001.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of NI Jamir’s family members, including Imtirenla, Chubala, Alemtemshi Jamir (IAS Retd), and Minister Metsübo Jamir. After serving as the Chief Secretary of Nagaland, NI Jamir was serving as a minister in Nagaland government when he breathed his last on 7 September 1996.
The event was also attended by Longsa Village Council Chairman, Talichuba, the deacon of Longsa Baptist Church, Supongmeren. In their heartfelt messages, the
y celebrated the remarkable lives and contributions of NI Jamir and Yashikala.
The inaugural service culminated with a benediction from Pastor Temjen of Chubayimkum.
