The Chessore Town Students’ Union (CTSU) has expressed grave concerns about the ongoing teacher shortages at Government High School (GHS) Chessore, which has been without Math and Science teachers since 2015. The Union asserted that this shortage has had a detrimental effect on students’ academic performance, as evidenced by the school’s persistent zero pass percentage in Class-X exams over the years.
The CTSU has also attributed the zero-pass percentage in Class-X exam results for many years to the lack of crucial subject teachers. Consequently, the Union has urged Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Advisor for School Education & SCERT, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, and the Director of School Education, Nagaland, to urgently post replacements for the retired and transferred teachers at GHS Chessore, stressing that students have endured this issue for nearly a decade.
This appeal followed a visit by a CTSU team, led by President Richard Yimkhiung and General Secretary Among Yimkhiung, to GHS Chessore on August 30, where they met with Assistant Headmaster RK Singh. The team’s findings revealed that the absence of Math and Science teachers since 2015 has been a key factor behind the school’s zero pass percentage in Class-X exams, according to a press release from the CTSU.
The team also discovered that Science teacher RP Prasad was promoted to JEO without a replacement on October 12, 2015, and Mathematics teacher SM Rujjaman took voluntary retirement on August 15, 2015, without a replacement. Additionally, Science teacher LB Ussuk was transferred to GHS Thangjem Tuensang without a replacement, and Headmaster L Mükamchim was promoted to SDEO Shamator, also without a replacement.
Despite several representations to the concerned department since 2016 by CTSU and Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako (YAA), and subsequent appeals by the Chessore Area Public Forum (CAPF) in 2021, no replacements have been posted to date. CTSU President Yimkhiung emphasized that GHS Chessore has been operating without these essential subject teachers for nearly a decade, adversely affecting the future of its students.
The CTSU has called for the immediate replacement of the retired and transferred teachers at GHS Chessore and warned that if the government does not address the issue, the Union will hold the relevant authorities responsible for neglecting the future of the school’s students. (The Morung Express)
