A public rally is set to take place in Longwa village on February 3, 2025, to protest against the proposed Indo-Myanmar border fencing and the scrapping of the Free Movement Regime (FMR). Organized by the Konyak Union (Apex), the event is expected to witness participation from various Konyak organizations, local leaders, and residents of the village, asserting their demand to preserve Konyak territorial integrity and traditional rights.

The rally will commence with a public march from LSU Park to the Chief Angh’s Residence Complex, the designated venue for the gathering. Attendees, dressed in traditional attire, are expected to assemble at LSU Park before 9:00 AM as part of the demonstration.

In accordance with the directives, all shops and institutions within Longwa jurisdiction will remain closed from 6:00 AM to 1:30 PM, with exemptions granted only for healthcare services. Additionally, entry and exit of vehicles, including daily sumo services, and movement of tourists or visitors will be strictly prohibited during the designated hours.

Speeches will be delivered by key stakeholders, including representatives from the Konyak Union (Myanmar), the Chief Angh of Longwa, KU Phomching Unit, KU Longshen Unit, Phomching Area Students’ Union, Phomching Nyupuh Sheko Khong, and a representative from Wayen village. Speakers are expected to reiterate that the border fencing would divide Konyak lands and families, disregarding their historical and cultural ties to both India and Myanmar.

During the rally, slogans such as “Respect Konyak Territorial Integrity, Stop Indo-Myanmar Border Fencing, and Restore FMR” and “Preserve Konyak Traditional Rights” will be raised, emphasizing the community’s firm stance on the issue.

The organizers have issued strict directives for the participation of all adult residents of Longwa village, warning of penalties for non-compliance.
