Lotha community urged to uphold and preserve rich cultural practices

Wokha, September 29 (MTNews): Department of Art and Culture, Wokha on Thursday conducted a one-day cultural program at Likhya Community Hall, Orchid Colony, Wokha.

I Yentinoungbou, Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC), HQ gracing the occasion called upon the Lotha community to uphold and preserve as well as promote their rich cultural practices in keeping the tradition alive.  He appreciated the department for conducting the first ever tribal festival in the district on the theme “Igniting cultural traditions.”

 

In a welcome address Zuthungo Yanthan, district cultural officer, Wokha encouraged the people to preserve culture stating that it is every individual’s responsibility. He appreciated the participants for taking opportunity in igniting the cultural traditions and transmitting to the younger generation through their active participation. He also informed that the state government has proposed to organize such an event so that the Naga traditions, values and practices are preserved since transition in culture lacks in valuing ones traditions, where he remarked that it is a threat and that Nagas will become a lost tribe if they failed to preserve their culture and their identity.

Lansothung Yanthan from Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Wokha and Chanchibeni Yanthan from Isaiah Ability Higher Secondary School Wokha presented a story telling while Longsa Women Cultural troupe, Vantsu Taro cultural troupe, Bethsaida School Wokha, Isaiah Ability Hr. Sec. School and Phiro Village cultural troupe presented a cultural dance, folksong, traditional practices and indigenous games which were on the verge of extinction.
