The Lotha Youth Hoho, under the aegis of the Lotha Hoho, organized a public rally in Wokha town on September 2, 2024, to protest against the increasing presence of anti-social elements within the community. The rally culminated in the submission of a memorandum to the Nagaland Governor, highlighting the group’s concerns and demanding immediate government intervention.
In the memorandum, the Lotha Youth Hoho urged the Governor to ensure the strict implementation of the ceasefire agreement between the Government of India and Naga groups, stating that “the ball is in the Government of India’s court, as the enforcement of the agreed ground rules lies with it.” The group emphasized the need for the Ceasefire Monitoring Group/Ceasefire Supervisory Board to be “pulled up from its slumber and activate its machineries to curb these ailments caused by the NNPGs.”
Furthermore, the Lotha Youth Hoho called for decisive action against the proliferation of factions within the Naga national workers, insisting that “the mushrooming of various factions… be nipped at the threshold with the force of this great nation.” They also demanded that individuals not covered by the ceasefire agreement be dealt with “as per the law of the land.”
One of the central issues raised in the memorandum was the recent assault on Pastor Rhanlamo Kikon of Yanpha Baptist Church. On August 24, 2024, Akhekevi, a cadre of the GPRN/NSCN (Khango) group, allegedly attempted to murder Pastor Kikon in Naukhati town but misfired. The memorandum described the attack as “a brutal act of violence, an inhumane and barbaric act against innocent people without any valid reasons.”
The Lotha Youth Hoho expressed deep concern over the continued unlawful activities of the NNPGs under the guise of the ceasefire agreement, stating that these actions have a “telling effect on the day-to-day life of the people at large and the youth, entrepreneurs in particular.” The group firmly believes that it is the government’s responsibility to “protect the wellbeing of its citizens with justice” and urged the authorities to address the matter with prompt action on priority.
