Mokokchung, 19 March (MTNews): The Department of Anthropology, Nagaland University inaugurated the much-anticipated Two-Day National Seminar on the topic “Anthropology in 21st Century: Emerging Areas of Research in North East India and Its Role in National Development” at its headquarters in Lumami, an update received here said. The program, organized by the Department of Anthropology, commenced on 19 March 2024 and is scheduled to run until 20 March 2024.
The convenor of the seminar, Prof. Somenath Bhattacharjee, shared his enthusiasm for the event, highlighting its significance in advancing anthropological discourse within the context of North East India’s development.
The inaugural session witnessed esteemed dignitaries gracing the occasion, including Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik, Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, who presided over the event as the Chief Guest. Dr Abemo, Registrar, delivered a succinct yet impactful speech on the seminar’s theme, emphasizing its relevance in the contemporary socio-cultural landscape.
The event commenced on a melodious note with a welcome song performed by the talented students of Nagaland University, setting the tone for the intellectual deliberations ahead. Dean of Science, in his address, underscored the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in addressing the challenges faced by the region.
Prof. Somenath Bhattacharjee introduced the theme of the seminar, providing insights into the diverse dimensions of anthropology in the 21st century. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. SR Mondal, Chair Professor at the University of North Bengal, shedding light on the pivotal role of anthropology in shaping national development agendas.
A series of enlightening plenary lectures followed, featuring eminent scholars such as Prof. Sarthak Sengupta, Prof. Temjensosang, Dr Dipendu Chatterjee, and Prof. Subho Roy, who delved into various facets of anthropological research and its implications for the region’s development trajectory.
As the day concluded, the vote of thanks was extended by the convenor, expressing gratitude to all committee members and students for their exemplary dedication and hard work in making the inaugural program a resounding success.
