A three-day mandatory training programme for Field Trainers under Census of India 2027 commenced on May 20 at the Commissioner’s Circuit House, Kohima, with participants from Kohima, Tseminyu, Wokha, and Zunheboto districts.
Addressing the inaugural programme, SDO (Civil) Sadar, Er. Seyiekhrietuo Solo said the Census exercise goes beyond headcounting and has a far-reaching impact on the developmental landscape of the state. Referring to the 2001 and 2011 Census exercises, he noted that gaps and discrepancies in data had affected developmental indicators and planning at various levels.
He stressed the importance of conducting the upcoming Census with accuracy and sincerity to ensure better planning and development. Solo said Field Trainers play a crucial role in the Census process as they will train enumerators and field workers. He urged participants to actively engage with the resource persons and make full use of the training sessions.
In his opening remarks, Additional District Census Officer, Kohima, and Training Coordinator, Dr. Riku Khutso informed that the programme marked the first phase of training for Field Trainers, who would later train enumerators and supervisors in their respective districts. He said the Census exercise would begin in July, while self-enumeration would commence earlier.
Dr. Khutso stated that the Census would be conducted through a full-scale digital operation and urged participants to cooperate fully with the Master Trainers.
Speaking at the programme, ADCO, Directorate of Census Operations, Mhathung Kithan said the 2027 Census would involve a five-level training structure to ensure uniform transfer of concepts and technical knowledge.
Altogether, 36 Field Trainers from Kohima, Tseminyu, Wokha, and Zunheboto districts are participating in the programme.
