A delegation from the 4th State Finance Commission, led by Chairperson Sarah R Ritse, visited Mangkolemba Town Council (MTC) to discuss a Five-Year Development Plan for one of Nagaland’s oldest and largest sub-divisions. The visit comes at a crucial time, as Mangkolemba continues to grapple with severe infrastructural deficits, especially poor road connectivity that has stifled the town’s growth and isolated it from vital economic and administrative networks.

According to a DIPR report, the visit took place on May 21, 2025. The purpose of the visit was to engage in formal discussions and conduct assessments, during which a joint meeting was convened.

The core agenda of the meeting revolved around the Five-Year Plan for Mangkolemba town. During the discussions, the MTC provided a short overview of the town, highlighting its needs and challenges, particularly the insufficient internal resources to carry out essential development projects, including market facilities, roads, and drainage systems. On a positive note, the availability of land was identified as a considerable asset for future development efforts.

The Town Council requested the intervention of the State Finance Commission to help address its resource shortfall for various infrastructural and civic initiatives aimed at enhancing the overall quality of life in Mangkolemba Town.

The meeting was attended by officials and councilors from the Mangkolemba Town Council, spearheaded by the Executive Officer (MTC), who concurrently serves as the ADC. Also present were the Chairperson of the MTC, the councilors of the town council, Ward Chairmen, Gaon Boras, and the General Secretary of the Jangpetkong Senso Telongjem Mangkolemba (JSTM).

“All attendees actively participated in the discussions, offering their perspectives and concerns regarding the town’s developmental agenda. The Mangkolemba Town Council conveyed a sense of optimism for a fruitful and impactful outcome in the coming five years as a result of this engagement,” the DIPR report stated.
