Mangkolemba, August 20 (MTNews): The Hokiyong Ward Council Mangkolemba has appealed to the Government of Nagaland to compensate and rehabilitate the affected families as soon as possible, while expressing their deep gratitude for the sacrifice, support, and solidarity shown by the various organizations and the residents of Mangkolemba Town during the unfortunate natural calamity that occurred on August 10, 2022 at Hokiyong Ward,Mangkolemba.
The landslide which occurred affected twelve (12) families where ten (10) families have been rendered homeless and loss of properties worth lakhs of rupees incurred.
In a press statement, the Hokiyong Ward Council’s chairman, Jongpongtiba, and secretary, Meyawati, mentioned that “numerous and massive cracks owing to severe subsidence of land have been found in the area which pose imminent danger to human lives, associated infrastructures and the wider environment”.
“Unless immediate mitigative measures were taken, another catastrophe is foreseen,” the press statement continued.
The Hokiyong Ward Council requested that the government of Nagaland delegate an expert committee to conduct an on-site survey and provide logistical support in order to prevent the situation from getting worse.
The Hokiyong Ward Council in conclusion extended their gratitude and appreciation to Minister Temjen Imna Along and Advisor, Dr. Longrineken, the Administration, All Heads of Office under Mangkolemba Sub-division, Village Councils, Ward Councils of the town, Churches, different organizations and all individuals for extending all possible help financially, physically and in prayer during the time of unfathomable crisis.
