Manipur continues to witness rising tensions following the deadly May 13 violence in Kangpokpi district, with economic blockades and shutdowns severely affecting movement along National Highway-2. Over 2,000 trucks are reported stranded, raising concerns over the supply of essential goods. Drivers stuck on the route are facing shortages of food and drinking water, with assistance being provided by local residents, transport unions and Assam Rifles personnel deployed along the highway.
The unrest stems from competing claims by Kuki and Naga organisations over missing persons and alleged hostage-taking after violence at Zero Point between Kotlen and Kotzim, which left three church leaders dead. Authorities initially reported 38 missing persons, of whom 32 have returned, while allegations persist from both sides regarding those still unaccounted for.
The United Naga Council has continued its economic blockade, while Kuki Inpi Manipur has extended its shutdown, intensifying disruption across hill districts. Church leaders have stepped in as mediators, meeting state officials and initiating efforts toward dialogue and humanitarian intervention.
