Imphal, 24 July (MTNews): Manipur capital Imphal witnessed a second attack on the house of Union Minister RK Ranjan Singh, highlighting the ongoing unrest in the region. The attack occurred during a women’s rally outside Singh’s residence, which escalated into violence as protesters pelted stones at the house. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
According to PTI, as no one was present in the house at the time of the attack, not much harm was done. The report further said that security personnel posted at the house dispersed the protesters who also sought restoration of internet services.
One of the protesters told PTI that they want the minister to speak in Parliament about the situation in the state and that they want internet services back.
The authorities banned internet services across Manipur for the first time on 3 May when clashes between ethnic communities began, reported PTI, adding that it is being extended from time to time “to prevent any disturbance of peace and public order.”
