In response to a query in the Lok Sabha, the Ministry of Education revealed that violence in Manipur over the past year has led to five students dropping out of schools, but no teachers have resigned. Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary shared this information in a written response to TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee’s question.

The Ministry’s statement confirmed that, according to the Manipur state government, the reported student dropouts and the lack of teacher resignations are the only impacts on the education sector due to the ongoing violence.

Since May of last year, ethnic clashes between the Meitei community, based in Imphal Valley, and the Kuki-Zo groups from the surrounding hills have resulted in more than 200 fatalities and displaced thousands.
