Kohima, 29 May (MTNews): The Nagaland University has issued a reminder to all Higher Secondary Schools regarding the requirement of mathematics for students opting for a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Economics (Honours) under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). This reminder comes in light of the changes implemented by the University Grants Commission (UGC) with regards to the admission criteria for the aforementioned program.

According to the Nagaland University letter dated 10 June 2022, and in continuation of the Nagaland Board of School Education Office Notification dated 15 June 2022, it has been emphasized that students intending to pursue a BA Economics (Honours) degree must have studied mathematics as one of their subjects at the Higher Secondary level. It was informed that this policy will be adopted by Nagaland University as well as other Universities across the country.

In order to ensure that students aspiring to study BA Economics (Honours) are not deprived of this opportunity, the heads of Higher Secondary Schools offering economics as an elective subject have been requested to take note of these changes. They are encouraged to take necessary actions to incorporate mathematics into their curriculum, enabling students to fulfill the eligibility criteria for admission to the BA Economics (Honours) program.

Additionally, the heads of institutions have been urged to disseminate this information and sensitize students during the admission process. It is crucial for students to choose the correct subject combination early on, ensuring that they meet the prerequisites for their desired course of study.
