Matrubhasa Divas was celebrated in Chennai on February 22 in connection with International Mother Language Day, highlighting India’s rich linguistic diversity. The cultural programme was inaugurated by Wapangtoshi, President of the North East India Welfare Association Chennai (NEIWAC) and Pastor of the Naga Christian Fellowship Chennai.

Speaking on the occasion, Wapangtoshi emphasised India’s plural identity, stating, “India is a country that cannot be confined to a single identity. It is not limited by one language, one culture, one religion, or one political ideology. Instead, India exemplifies unity in diversity, a testament to how differences can coexist peacefully. Its true strength lies in embracing these differences while remaining united as one nation. India is not a single story but a collection of countless stories woven together into one vibrant and extraordinary country.”

The programme’s theme, Language, Attire, Devotion, Food and Travel, reflected the diverse expressions of Indian culture. Hundreds of attendees from various walks of life participated, underscoring the importance of preserving and promoting mother languages across the country.
