Mokokchung, August 18 (MTNews): The accused in the hit-and-run case of May 25 where a student of St. Joseph University, Chumoukedima, from Ungma village, lost her life has been arrested by Nagaon Police, Assam and has been handed over to Dimapur Police today. The accused has been identified as one Dildar Hussain, S/O Nur Islam of Radhati, PS Dhing.

Nagaon Police said in a public statement that the accused was also involved in another road accident that happened on July 20, 2022 at Goroimari under Nagaon PS where a Scorpio bearing Reg. No. AS01 AK 8524 hit one Tempo bearing Reg. No. AS02 AC 3426 resulting in the death of one lady and causing injuries to 15 passengers. The accused had been on the run since then, Nagaon Police said.

 

Nagaon Police informed that the accused was arrested today based on source input in connection with the Nagaon case. Nagaon Police said that while investigating the Nagaon case, it came to light that the same accused person had committed one hit and run offence in May 2022 at Dimapur, Nagaland, with the same vehicle which resulted in the death of one college girl. “He had also been absconding from Dimapur Police since May 2022,” Nagaon Police added.

 

“On being contacted by Dimapur Police, the accused person was handed over to the SIT of Dimapur Police led by ACP Traffic, Dimapur, Henthai Phom,” the Nagaon Police statement read.
