MCTE culminates four-day ‘Fusion Fest’

Mokokchung, 2 March (MTNews): The Mokokchung College of Teacher Education (MCTE), Yimyu, recently concluded its much-anticipated ‘Fusion Fest’ after four days of vibrant cultural celebrations from 27 February to 1 March 2024, all under the theme of “Navigating our Roots.”


Dr T Alemla Longkumer, the Principal of MCTE, in her welcome address emphasized the need to protect, preserve, and promote our physical, social, and cultural environment – a cornerstone of the college’s values. She further underscored the significance of fostering our rich value systems and practices.

Guest Speaker, P Tiatemsu, Assistant Professor at the Department of Botany, Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, and Advisor at ArjuCentres Mokokchung emphasized the importance of cultivating a resilient work culture, understanding the interconnectedness of all life forms on Earth, cherishing community life, and preserving Indigenous Knowledge Systems.

Throughout the festivity, various cultural and literary competitions enthralled participants from Mokokchung. Notable highlights included the Fusion Harmony performance by student-teachers representing different Naga tribes and a special presentation of ‘Naga Lima’ by Imnasenla and Bendangtila.

Regarding various competitions, the traditional fire-making contest saw Imchatoshi & Katikaba Longkumer from DIET, Mokokchung, clinching the top spot. The Extempore competition crowned Medemren of Jubilee Memorial College as the winner. Meanwhile, folk tale narration accolades went to Imlimenla B Longkumer from Jubilee Memorial College.

The fest also featured indigenous games alongside modern sports, with Team Hornbill emerging as the overall champion. Indigenous stalls showcased various local delicacies and artisanal products. A Musical Spectacle featuring performances by local artists and student teachers was also held.
