Mokokchung College of Teacher Education (MCTE) has sought immediate upgradation into a multidisciplinary institution, alongside proposals for a residential hostel and faculty quarters, during a visit by Higher Education Minister Temjen Imna Along on Monday.
Presenting the college’s priorities, Principal Dr T Alemla Longkumer said the institution’s foremost requirement was its transition into a multidisciplinary college, while also highlighting infrastructure constraints faced by faculty members, many of whom are posted from outside Mokokchung district.
The principal also stressed the need for a residential hostel and faculty quarters to support the college’s future growth and improve working conditions for teaching staff.
Responding to the proposals, Along directed the department’s engineering team to prepare a comprehensive master plan for the college campus.
He said all colleges in Nagaland should have long-term master plans to ensure systematic and sustainable institutional development, adding that such planning would help guide future infrastructure expansion.
The minister’s directive comes at a time when higher education institutions across the state are seeking to expand academic programs and infrastructure under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 framework.
During the interaction, the college also highlighted several developmental initiatives undertaken in recent years with support from the Higher Education Department. These include expansion of the campus through acquisition of additional land, sanctioning of a new academic building, strengthening of faculty positions, and the institution’s inclusion under the PM-USHA Gender Inclusion and Equity Initiative.
Along inspected the newly constructed academic building and discussed future infrastructure requirements with college authorities.
He also commended the leadership of the principal, emphasizing the role of institutional heads in driving academic and infrastructural development.
The visit focused largely on the college’s long-term development roadmap, with the proposed multidisciplinary upgrade and campus master plan emerging as the key outcomes of the discussions.
