Mokokchung, February 21 (MTNews): The 30th T20 Interclub Tournament organized by the Mokokchung District Cricket Association (MDCA) held at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung, concluded today as Titans Cricket Club emerged as the undisputed champions.
The final match between Titans CC and United Brothers CC was delayed as bad weather conditions played spoilsport. However, players from both teams kept their spirits alive to entertain the fans with a well-deserved final battle. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, United Brothers CC struggled to keep momentum, as Basant from Titans troubled the batsmen with his fine form, notching up 4 wickets to his name. United Brothers’ scorecard, at one point of time, read 37/7. However, Sentiwapang and Tiawati kept United’s hopes alive with their fine knocks of 32 runs and 19 runs respectively. Their contributions helped United put up a score of 85 runs in 19.3 overs.
Chasing a target of 86, Titans comfortably achieved the target in 14.4 overs, with 7 wickets to spare. Neehal’s (56) quick-fire half century, enabling his team to a comfortable victory, was a delight to watch for the fans. Titan’s Basant Pradhan was named the man-of-the-match, who was also later, declared the man of the tournament.
Talking to Mokokchung Times, Basant expressed that winning the MDCA Tournament has brought him another step closer to achieving his dream of playing for the Indian National Team one day. He further asserted that for achieving greatness, one should nurture talents from a young age, citing 13 year old Amongti of Tritons CC, as an evident example. Amongti was adjudged the most promising player of the tournament.
Earlier in the day, at the closing program, Chief Patron, Er. Chubatoshi, Former President MDCA, urged the citizens to promote humanity through sports in Mokokchung, Nagaland, and in India, as a whole. “I would like to call upon cricket lovers and players to develop humanity and discipline,” he said.
