Mokokchung, 20 October (MTNews): On day four of the ongoing Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) Trophy 2023, football enthusiasts were treated to a goal-filled day, witnessing a total of 11 goals in two matches, with Brotherhood FC and NU Lumami emerging as the winners in their respective games.
In the first match of the day, Brotherhood FC left no room for doubt as they dominated Dare Devils Assam Rifles with a remarkable 7-0 victory. The game initially unfolded at a measured pace, with limited action in the early stages. However, Brotherhood FC found their scoring touch after 43 minutes when Imkongnungkum opened the account just before the end of the first half.
While the first half ended with the scoreline of 1-0 in favour of Brotherhood FC, the second half saw a goal-scoring explosion from Brotherhood. Tarepnungsang ignited the engine, finding the back of the net in the 47th minute, followed swiftly by Menjur’s goal in the 49th minute. Tarepnungsang secured his brace at the 55th minute, and Menjur added another goal to his name in the 74th minute.
Tarepnungsang completed a hat-trick with a goal in the 89th minute, marking the first hat-trick of the tournament. Tajungsang sealed the victory with an extra-time goal in the 92nd minute, securing a resounding win for Brotherhood in this year’s tournament debut. This match marked the second consecutive loss for Dare Devils Assam Rifles.
In the day’s second match, a Pool B clash between NU Lumami and 16 United Brothers, the boys from Lumami secured a convincing 4-0 victory. M Phoawang opened the scoring for NU Lumami early in the 6th minute, with Neilei Nagi adding another goal in the 20th minute. 16 United Brothers struggled to find the net, resulting in a halftime scoreline of 2-0.
After the break, M Phoawang struck again in the 50th minute, extending the lead for the Lumami team. Just two minutes later, Chingjung Y Konyak found the net, cementing the 4-0 lead. 16 United Brothers couldn’t muster a goal by the final whistle, leading to a disappointing start to their tournament journey.
On day 5 of the MDFA Trophy, KSR Team will face off against Lomuden FC in the first match, while former champions Zonipang will go head-to-head with the SSS in the second game.
