On day five of the ongoing Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) Trophy 2023, KSR Team and Sports Society Suyim (SSS) showcased their dominance on the field, securing impressive victories against Lomuden FC and Zonipang SA, respectively.

In the first match of the day, KSR Team clashed with Lomuden FC in a Pool B matchup, where KSR demonstrated their superiority with a commanding 6-1 victory. KSR’s goal-scoring spree commenced early, with Petevizo Kezieo finding the net in the 8th minute, followed closely by Rhitso Mero’s goal in the 13th minute.

Nisede Peseyie extended KSR’s lead with a goal in the 24th minute, and Yhoto Lohe added another in the 32nd minute. Lomuden FC managed to score a goal through Obanglemzung in the 35th minute, concluding the first half with a scoreline of 4-1 in favor of KSR.

In the second half, KSR maintained their momentum as Nisede Peseyie secured his brace in the 49th minute, followed by Rhitso Mero’s brace in the 86th minute. This victory marked KSR’s second consecutive win in as many matches in the tournament. With the win, KSR has also qualified for the quarterfinals while Super Seniors and Lomuden will meet on 25 October, the winner of which will qualify for the next round as second place winners from Pool D.

In the second match of the day, former champions Zonipang went head-to-head with SSS. However, it was SSS who emerged victorious with a comfortable 4-1 win. Suponglepba opened the scoring for SSS in the 12th minute, followed by Suyimmayang’s goal in the 35th minute and Noksangmere’s goal in the 40th minute. The first half ended with a commanding 3-0 lead for SSS.

After the break, Zonipang showed some signs of resurgence as Talijungba found the back of the net in the 65th minute. However, their comeback fell short as Shilususang sealed the victory for SSS with a goal in the 90th minute, resulting in a final score of 4-1. The match saw four players receiving yellow cards, with 2 on each side.

Looking ahead to Monday, Day 6 of the MDFA Trophy, Telongjem FC will face off against 16 United Brothers, and Legendary Misfits will take on the debutants KSUM in a crucial second match of the day.
