In the first semifinal of the MDFA Trophy 2023, last year’s runners-up, Moanungsang MSC, secured their spot in the final by defeating Super Seniors FC with a convincing 2-0 victory. The match took place on Tuesday at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex in Mokokchung.
The initial half of the solitary match of the day witnessed limited action as both teams played cautiously, struggling to find the back of the net. However, the 48-year-old seasoned veteran Rongsenchiba of Moanungsang MSC broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, scoring the opening goal and extending his impressive tournament goal tally to 5.
This breakthrough goal spurred the Super Seniors team to raise their game, but their efforts couldn’t match the energy of the younger Moanungsang MSC side. In the 88th minute, Molutsupong of Moanungsang MSC added another goal, securing a 2-0 victory and a place in the finals for the two-time champions.
The upcoming second semifinal match on Wednesday will feature defending champions, Telongjem FC, and the formidable KSR Team. It’s being anticipated as the ‘final before the final,’ showcasing some of the biggest names in Nagaland football.
