In a fiercely contested match, Moanungsang Memorial Sporting Club (MMSC) displayed remarkable resilience, overturning a two-goal deficit to secure a thrilling 4-2 victory against DEF. The game began with both teams evenly matched, exchanging possession and chances in a tightly fought first half. However, it was DEF who broke the deadlock in the 41st minute, with Hainsihgonba finding the back of the net to give his side a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

DEF carried their momentum into the second half with a blistering start. Just two minutes after the break, Muluvoto extended their lead, scoring in the 47th minute to make it 2-0 and seemingly put DEF in control of the game.
DEF, led by Mokokchung Superintendent of Police, Vesupra Kezo, donning jersey number 16, enjoyed robust support from police officials, including the Addl SP Mokokchung, SDPO Mokokchung, and OC Mokokchung PS II, along with many other police personnel cheering them on. But MMSC refused to back down, responding quickly through Opangtemjen, who pulled one back in the 53rd minute to make it 2-1 and reignite hope for his team.
As the game progressed, MMSC’s attacking pressure increased, forcing DEF onto the back foot. A crucial mistake by DEF’s goalkeeper in the 69th minute allowed Nungsangtoshi to pounce, leveling the score at 2-2. The equalizer sparked a surge of confidence for MMSC, and just six minutes later, Nungsangtoshi struck again in the 75th minute, giving his team the lead for the first time in the match.
MMSC’s relentless attack continued, and within a minute of taking the lead, Opangtemjen added his second goal of the game in the 76th minute, sealing a two-goal cushion for MMSC. With the score at 4-2, MMSC showcased great composure and determination, holding off any attempts by DEF to claw their way back into the game.
With today’s loss, following their 1-6 defeat to Team Gilgal in the inaugural match earlier on Tuesday, DEF became the first team to exit the tournament.
Defending champions Telongjem FC thump Amokmolu SC for 6 goals
Defending champions Telongjem FC stormed to a 6-1 victory against former champions Amokmulu SC in a dominant display that showcased their depth and teamwork. The match started with an early penalty in the 3rd minute, converted by Sujimong Longkumer, setting the tone for Telongjem’s attack. Despite Longkumer being sidelined due to an injury before halftime, the team didn’t lose momentum.
Telongjem’s defense was bolstered by Menguzelie Rutsa, who put on an exceptional performance, aided by Pangersunep and Vitoho Kiho. Together, they thwarted any serious threats from Amokmulu SC, leaving their opponents frustrated and unable to capitalize on the few chances they created.
MDFA Trophy 2000 champions Amokmulu’s troubles deepened when another foul just outside the box resulted in a free kick, which Sentimongba expertly converted in the 8th minute to make it 2-0. Telongjem’s fluid one-touch passing led to a third goal, scored by Japhet in the 42nd minute. Menguzelie Rutsa then netted twice, with goals in the 65th and 86th minutes, extending Telongjem’s lead to 5-0.
Midfielder Keyipuakleube orchestrated play with near-perfect precision, controlling the tempo and linking up seamlessly with his teammates. The coordination between Rutsa, Keyipuakleube, and Japhet was a highlight of the game.
For Amokmulu SC, John managed a late consolation goal in the 88th minute; however, the team’s misery was compounded when they conceded another penalty in stoppage time. Keyipuakleube converted the spot kick in the 90+3 minute to cap off Telongjem’s 6-1 rout.
Speaking with MT after the match, Telongjem FC coach Tiakumzuk shared his thoughts: “The opponent was very tough. It was a hard match overall, but we tried to control the game by having maximum possession. We knew that if we had possession, the goals would come.”
