Amokmolu SC and KSUM play out thrilling 2-2 draw

In an action-packed encounter, Amokmolu Sporting Club and Konyak Students’ Union Mokokchung (KSUM) shared the spoils after a thrilling 2-2 draw. The match, filled with momentum shifts and high drama, saw both teams taking the lead at different stages before settling for a hard-fought point each.

Amokmolu struck first, making an early breakthrough in the 13th minute with Tarepnungsang finding the net. However, their lead was short-lived as KSUM responded strongly. Naoman brought his side level in the 30th minute, capitalizing on an attacking move to restore parity.

KSUM continued to press and were rewarded just before the half-time whistle. In the 45+2 minute, Amokmolu’s Namang made a costly error and conceded an own goal, giving KSUM a 2-1 lead heading into the break.

The second half was just as intense, with both teams pushing forward in search of more goals. Amokmolu’s persistence paid off when Lipoksunep fired in the equalizer in the 64th minute, making it 2-2.

The match remained on a knife’s edge, with both teams creating chances and looking to take the lead once again, but neither could find the decisive goal.

Despite their efforts to claim all three points, both Amokmolu and KSUM had to settle for a shared result, a fair outcome in a fiercely contested match.

Team Gilgal took the lead late in the first half, with Ato Chopi finding the back of the net in the 42nd minute. Their 1-0 lead carried them into the second half, where they looked poised to build on their advantage. However, MMSC responded quickly after the break, as Nungsangtoshi scored a crucial equalizer in the 50th minute, bringing the game level at 1-1.

With the game finely balanced, both teams pressed for a winner. Chances were created on both ends, but neither side could convert, leaving the match tied at full-time. Despite the shared points, it was a spirited performance from both teams, who fought hard but ultimately had to settle for a draw, nonetheless proving that they’re both favorites to reach the final.

Zonipang SA thrashes SSS 5-0

Former champions Zonipang SA delivered a commanding performance against a weak Sports Society Soyim (SSS), securing a 5-0 victory to advance in the tournament. While the first half saw only a single goal from Imnatoshi in the 41st minute, the scoreline failed to reflect Zonipang’s dominance throughout the game.

Lemong of Sports Society Soyim (SSS) and Longyang of Zonipang SC vie for the ball during a Pool B match of the MDFA Trophy 2024 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung, October 19.

Carrying their momentum into the second half, Zonipang unleashed an attacking onslaught, with Imnatoshi leading the charge. He completed his hattrick with two more goals in the 47th and 63rd minutes, leaving SSS struggling to contain the relentless pressure. Just minutes later, Aripong added a fourth in the 66th minute, and Nungshisashi capped off the comprehensive win with a goal in the 80th minute.

Zonipang’s emphatic 5-0 victory ensured their place in the next round alongside Super Seniors FC from Pool B. For SSS, it was a bitter end to their tournament journey, conceding 11 goals in 2 games.
