On June 14, 2025, the Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA), in collaboration with the Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection, Mokokchung, successfully organized an Awareness Programme on the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 at the Town Hall, Mokokchung. The event aimed to educate the public about consumer rights, the provisions of the Act, and the mechanisms available for redressal, including those related to e-commerce.


Julian Sitlhou, Chief Judicial Magistrate -cum-Secretary, MDLSA, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the definition of a “consumer” under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, and key provisions of the legislation. She explained the legal framework, emphasizing its role in protecting consumers from unfair trade practices and ensuring accountability of service providers and businesses. Her session provided a clear understanding of the Act’s scope and relevance.

Bendangsenla, Consumer Member, addressed the audience on the rights of consumers enshrined under the Act and the practical steps for seeking redressal through the Consumer Forum. She also elaborated on the growing significance of e-commerce and the protections available to online consumers. Her presentation offered actionable insights into navigating consumer disputes and leveraging digital platforms responsibly. A video presentation followed, illustrating real-world applications of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. It reinforced the key points discussed by the resource persons and served as an engaging visual aid.

Participants also interacted with the resource persons, raising questions on filing complaints and addressing e-commerce-related issues.

The programme was chaired by Temjenkokla, PL, MDLSA, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Er. Noksangyuba Pongen, Legal Metrology Officer.

The same awareness program on Consumer Protection was conducted at Mangkolemba Town in association with the Mangkolemba Baptist Church Youth Ministry.

Watitemjen, Retainer Lawyer of MDLSA, outlined the various free legal services provided by the District Legal Services Authority and encouraged participants to seek assistance from the DLSA for competent legal support.

Mapujungla, PL, delivered a detailed presentation on Consumer Rights, highlighting key provisions under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, with a special focus on e-commerce transactions. She emphasized the importance of consumer education and awareness in safeguarding individuals against unfair trade practices.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Limasunep from the Legal Metrology Department, followed by an interactive session where participants clarified their doubts on consumer rights and legal remedies.
