The Mokokchung District Martial Art Association (MDMAA) held its Farewell-cum-Handing and Taking Programme on June 13, marking the transition of responsibilities to a new team of office bearers for the 2026-30 tenure.
Speaking at the programme, outgoing Treasurer Imliyanger Jamir reflected on the challenges faced by the association and the efforts that helped revive it. Recalling a difficult phase in MDMAA’s history, he said the association was once surviving on “oxygen” and required the commitment of its members to remain functional.
He credited the association’s revival to teamwork and urged the new leadership to continue working together for its growth. Stressing the importance of martial arts and physical fitness, he expressed concern over declining youth participation and highlighted MDMAA’s efforts to promote awareness through school visits and demonstrations.
Outgoing President Rongsentoshi Jamir outlined the history of the association, formed on August 7, 1991, to bring various martial arts disciplines under a common platform. He said the body was established following concerns over the fragmented administration of martial arts activities in the district.
Rongsentoshi also recalled the contributions of pioneers such as late Sashi Leo, Sashi Walling and Sentimeren. He noted that although MDMAA became defunct in 2014, members later revived the organisation, organised its Jubilee celebration and achieved success at international competitions.
The newly inducted office bearers for the 2026-30 tenure are Imyuangdang (President), Talimoa (Vice President), Imtisungkum (General Secretary), Temjennaro Longchar (Assistant General Secretary), Nukshikala Jamir (Finance Secretary), Jaksungmenla Longkumer (Assistant General Secretary), and Imkongwati (Treasurer), along with members of the Executive Committee, Technical Committee and Medical Consultant.
The programme concluded with the induction of the new office bearers led by President Imyuangdang.
