Kohima, 4 July (MTNews): A one-day media workshop titled ‘Vartalap’ on the theme of ‘9 years Seva, Sushasan, and Garib Kalyan’ was successfully conducted at Hotel Japfü in Kohima. The event aimed to provide journalists and media professionals with valuable insights and guidance on reporting impartially and responsibly. The workshop, held on 4 July, witnessed the participation of prominent figures from the media fraternity and government officials.

The Chief Guest for the occasion was Rupin Sharma IPS, the Director General of Police, Nagaland. In his address, Sharma emphasized the significance of honesty and fearlessness in delivering accurate information to the general public. He urged media personnel to refrain from taking sides and avoid reporting from biased perspectives that could potentially incite chaos during law and order situations.

 

Commending the media fraternity for their responsible coverage of the Manipur issue, Sharma lauded their efforts in curbing the spread of harmful or false news. He stressed the importance of exercising caution even when reporting the truth if it proves detrimental to society. The Director General also highlighted the crucial role of social media, as well as audio and visual platforms, in disseminating up-to-date news. However, he advised users and handlers to verify and authenticate information before sharing it to maintain credibility.

 

Furthermore, Sharma called upon journalists to enhance awareness of government schemes in remote villages across the state in a more organized and comprehensive manner. Addressing the prevalent issue of drugs, he urged all attendees to join the collective effort in combating drug abuse and apprehending drug peddlers.

 

K Elu Nadang, the General Secretary, Naga Hoho served as the guest of honor for the event. He expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to participate in a workshop of such profound importance. Ndang acknowledged the Government of India’s dedication to providing people-centric schemes and policies that directly benefit the population.

 

During the technical session, several resource persons shared their expertise with the participants. Ketsukha Kath, the Joint Director of the Agriculture Department, provided an overview of the Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) implemented by the department. Savio Visa, the Joint Director of the Department of Employment, discussed the activities carried out by the Department of Employment Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. Additionally, Er Samuel Terieng, the Senior Programme Officer, and Vizoselie Semou, the Programme Officer, shed light on the activities implemented by the IT & Communication Department.

 

To mark the occasion, the Director General of Police, Rupin Sharma, inaugurated a mini photo exhibition titled ‘9 years Seva, Sushasan, and Garib Kalyan’ at Hotel Japfü. The exhibition showcased significant milestones and achievements from the past nine years.
