The 90-day Mediation for the Nation campaign, conducted under the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA), successfully settled 89 cases out of 428 matters referred by District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) and the High Court Legal Services Committee (HCLSC) between July and September 2025.
The campaign was conceptualised by the National Legal Services Authority in collaboration with the Mediation & Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC), Supreme Court of India, under the guidance of Chief Justice of India and Justice Surya Kant, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Executive Chairman, NALSA. Launched nationwide on 1st July 2025, the special mediation drive aimed to promote amicable dispute resolution across India.
During the campaign, HCLSC and DLSAs identified and referred 428 cases for mediation, of which 86 were successfully resolved and registered in various judicial courts. Mediators, trained for 40 hours in mediation techniques, handled cases involving money suits, custody matters, consumer disputes, family disagreements, criminal compoundable cases, accident claims, recovery suits, and other civil matters. Some cases did not reach settlement due to non-response of parties, lack of interest in mediation, or requests for additional time.
Justice Surya Kant held video conferences with Chief Justices and Members of Mediation Monitoring Committees of all High Courts to ensure smooth implementation. Data on pending matters and mediation referrals were transmitted to MCPC by all High Courts.
In Nagaland, 52 legal practitioners have undergone mediation training under NALSA. Parties wishing to resolve disputes amicably can approach the DLSA Front Offices in their respective districts or the NSLSA office ahead of the 4th Quarterly National Lok Adalat scheduled for 13th December 2025.
Mediation provides an alternative dispute resolution mechanism, allowing a neutral mediator to guide parties toward settlement without resorting to lengthy court trials.
