Emy Jamir of Ungma Village, residing at Artang Ward, Mokokchung is an independent electrician, an inspiring husband and a father of two daughters who used his father’s taught skill to his advantage and consequently for the society.
Growing up as an only son, Emy shared a close bond with his late father who unfortunately passed away when he was just eighteen. However, his multi-talented father left him with gems of knowledge which included carpentry, wood work and skills of an electrician.
Taking the skills he learnt from his father, Emy started doing electrical wiring on his own for his entire house and slowly expanded his journey in doing it for other households. He marks this year as his fifteenth year of being an electrician. Today, he has worked for almost all households in the colony of his current residence, Artang, and has extended his service beyond his colony.
However, upon his realization that all works starting from masonry, carpentry, plumbing and electrical works are being done only by the non-locals, for the first time in fifteen years, he took it to the social media platform on Wednesday evening and explained people the kind of work he does in the hope to inspire and urge people to use their talent to work and earn.
“If all young and old come up with their talents, then it will benefit them as well as our society. There are lots of people, even women, who are more skilled than me but none of them comes forward but rather shies away,” he lamented.
“It’s really the right time for all of us to wake up, open our eyes and do the things which we can do by ourselves. I would love all to come up and work and show your talents,” he added further.
Emy, who doesn’t have an academic background in electronics and electrical subjects said that he has improved a lot in his fifteen years experience and is confident that now, he can be called a ‘professional’ in what he does.
“I love doing what I do and have been living my dream. I took to social media because I wanted to turn this into something official. That way, I can earn more and at the same time prevent people I work for from spending extra amounts of money,” he said.
Speaking about unemployment and the urgent need for people to step up with their inputs, he said, “Most people like me are jobless so it’s high time to utilize our talents because it’s not easy to find a job. Thus, we have to do alternative work to make ends well. If we all utilize our talents properly, then success will follow us in time to come.”
Emy, whose wife is a woman police officer, said he still wants to work and contribute for his family so that their kids can have a better life. Emy is not only an electrician but is skilled in carpentry and other wood works that one can often see him making the likes of stage platforms for various occasions.
