The Men’s Hostel of St Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama, organized a farewell program for its outgoing students on May 11 at 2:30 PM in the College Auditorium under the theme “Breaking Boundaries for Building Future.”
The event was graced by R Lungleng, educator, podcaster, and proprietor of The Lungleng Show, as the special guest. Lemribah and Avili Sangtam compared the program, while Rev Sr Cecelia Rosu, SABS, led the invocation.
Rev Dr Fr George Pezalhoukho George, Director of the Men’s Hostel, gave the welcome address, thanking the seniors for their contributions and encouraging them to carry forward the values learned during their time in the hostel.
R Lungleng delivered the keynote address, urging students to challenge societal norms and choose careers based on passion rather than pressure. He highlighted the prevalent obsession with civil services among Naga youth and called for a redefinition of success. Sharing personal struggles with societal expectations, he advocated for a culture of integrity and acknowledged the Catholic Church’s role in shaping society through education and values. His speech encouraged responsibility, purpose, and courage.
Rev Dr Fr Keduolhou George, Principal of the College, offered a reflection on the theme, focusing on the meaning of real encouragement. He criticized superficial online support, or “slacktivism,” and emphasized the need for practical support in times of difficulty. He urged students to overcome fear and doubt and become agents of moral and spiritual transformation.
The farewell included performances that reflected the emotion of the event. A farewell song by second-year students moved the audience, and Akhedy, speaking on behalf of the juniors, expressed gratitude for the seniors’ leadership.
Nchumthung Kikon, representing the outgoing students, shared memories of hostel life and urged juniors to uphold values of discipline, faith, and unity.
The Yimkhiung community presented a folk fusion performance, while the Rongmei community also contributed with a cultural presentation.
Kakito K Awomi gave the vote of thanks, acknowledging the Principal, Director, guest, organizing committee, performers, and attendees for making the program a success.
The event concluded with a benediction by Rev Dr Sr Katini, CMC, followed by the Hostel Anthem and a fellowship dinner.
