Mokchung, August 15 (MTNews): Along with the rest of the country, Mokokchung observed the 76th Independence Day celebrations at Imkongmeren Sports complex. Minister for Rural Development & SIRD, Nagaland, Metsubo Jamir on the occasion hoisted the ceremonial national flag and delivered the Independence Day speech. He also inspected 12 parade contingents commanded by parade commander, Chuba Chang, NPS SDPO (HQ) Mokokchung, and 2nd parade Commander ABI, K. Meren Jamir, 2nd NAP Bn.
The performance of a cultural dance by Cultural Club Khensa, a Pipe Band Display by the 23rd Assam Rifles, and an exhibition Tug of War contest between All Ward Union Mokokchung Town and Mokokchung Town GB Union were among the highlights of the day’s program.
The Minister also handed the District Awards 2022 to the following individuals on the occasion: Lanuningsang Dobashi-II, Office of the EAC Ongpangkong; Lal Bahadur, Sanitation worker cum Sweeper, Office of the Changtongya Town Council; Along Jamir, Gaon Bura (GB) Tongdentsuyong ward, President Mokokchung District GB Association; Neem Bahadur Gurung, LDA, Office of the Mokokchung Municipal Council; and Bendangtoshi, Office Peon.
The Minister inaugurated the exhibition stalls and the newly constructed basketball court at Imkongmeren Sports Complex as part of the celebration.
