Minister for Higher Education Temjen Imna Along announced that the Department has almost completed the disbursement of the first installment of the Post Matric Scholarship for ST students in Nagaland. Addressing media persons at his official residence in Kohima today, he mentioned that out of 42,817 beneficiaries, 40,528 students have already received their scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year, amounting to a total payment of Rs 16,88,66,813. Additionally, 21 beneficiaries’ accounts were found invalid and 55 payments bounced. Furthermore, 38 accounts were withheld pending confirmation of documents from institutions, and 589 accounts failed validation.

Minister Along also informed that the department is awaiting sanction of Rs 35,29,11,000 as the second installment. He stated that the finance department has approved the budget for the State Merit Scholarship, which will be released in the coming days. There are 4,330 beneficiaries of the State Merit Scholarship and 94 recipients of research scholarships. He emphasized that the Department is ensuring transparent distribution of scholarships, with all transactions processed through PFMS (Public Financial Management System).

OSD (Scholarship) Keduosielie Keyho announced that starting from the academic year 2024-2025, the Post Matric Scholarship for ST students will be a one-time payment, unlike the current system of two installments. He also revealed that from this academic session onwards, the department will integrate with the National Scholarship Portal to enhance student and government efficiency.

Imna Along affirms PDA Govt’s commitment to stability and development in Nagaland

Minister for Higher Education, Tourism, and Nagaland Government Spokesperson Temjen Imna Along today stated that the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government is committed to providing stability and good governance to the people of Nagaland. Addressing a press conference in Kohima, Along added that the Urban Local Body elections have concluded, except for re-polling at one Polling Station in Ward 20, Dimapur.

He acknowledged that every election brings its own set of issues and pointed out that the PDA government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Deputy Chief Ministers Y Patton and TR Zeliang, in collaboration with the opposition-less government, is dedicated to resolving issues and ensuring cohesive development of the state.

The Minister emphasized that the PDA government, along with the NDA-led government at the centre, remains positive about achieving a resolution to the Naga Political issue. (With AIR inputs)
