After a three-year hiatus, Miss Mokokchung 2025 is set to return under the inspiring theme “Beyond Beauty”. Organized by Forerunners Mokokchung under the aegis of the Mokokchung District Arts and Culture Council (MDACC), the grand finale will take place on July 25, 2025.
The offline audition was held today at El Dora, with nine contestants participating. Speaking to the press, Sashinungla, Patron of Forerunners Mokokchung, shared that an online audition is being planned in the coming week to accommodate aspiring participants who are currently outside Mokokchung.
This year’s Miss Mokokchung aims to spotlight special education, with a focus on uplifting children with diverse needs.
“We want our queens to sensitize people on these issues,” said Sashila Nathan, a patron of Forerunners Mokokchung.
Aren, member of MDACC and Forerunners Mokokchung, explained that the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent economic challenges were key reasons for the pageant’s absence since 2021.
“In recent years, there were very few interested participants and limited organizers,” he added.
While MDACC had the option to host the event independently, Aren noted that most of its members are volunteers and government servants, and manpower had steadily declined.
“Over the years, MDACC has been the guardian of pageantry, and we were very keen on selecting the right organization to ensure that the title is not abused or misused,” he said.
This year’s pageant includes several new features:
Eligibility: Contestants must be between 18–25 years old and at least 5.3 feet tall.
Professional Grooming: For the first time, Talent Foresight, a grooming team from Kohima, along with a fashion designer from Shillong, will provide professional guidance.
Special Guests: The event will feature appearances by the reigning Femina Miss India Kerala and Femina Miss India Manipur.
A highlight of the evening will be a tribute runway, featuring all former Miss Mokokchung winners since 1992, including previous Miss Nagaland titleholders.
The Forerunners will also sponsor gowns, tiaras, makeup artists, and cocktail dresses. Contestants are only required to bring their traditional attires.
2021 marked the last year Mokokchung crowned a beauty queen, and 2012 was the last time a contestant from the district won Miss Nagaland. Once a strong contender, the district has seen a dip in participation and recognition in recent years.
“We believe this year can restore Mokokchung’s former glory,” said organizers with optimism.
The Miss Mokokchung 2025 offline auditions were judged by Sashila Nathan, Jentiren Jamir, Sentiyapang, and Imnuksungla.
The convenor of Forerunners Mokokchung, Chiben Jamir was also present.
