Missionshire Cricket Club (MCC), one of Nagaland’s oldest cricket clubs, celebrated its silver jubilee in Kohima on November 22, marking 25 years since its founding in 2000. The commemorative event, held at 2K Hotel, began with a prayer of thanksgiving led by MCC advisor Vilhoubeilie Cassius Solo. He reflected on the club’s origins and its mission to promote cricket through tournaments and regular activities. Solo noted that cricket, though originating in England centuries ago, has now grown into a sport enjoyed across the world and has found a strong place in Nagaland’s sporting culture.

Kohima District Cricket Association (KDCA) president Mengü Sakhrie delivered greetings and congratulated MCC for reaching this milestone, acknowledging its significant contributions to the growth of cricket in the district. Sakhrie spoke about the challenges involved in building a dedicated cricket stadium in Kohima due to weather and logistical issues but shared that a proposal for an indoor stadium has been submitted to the Board of Control for Cricket in India. He also appealed for MCC’s continued support in grooming young players, emphasizing the need for grassroots development.

As part of its development initiatives, MCC has set up cricket practice nets in eight locations across Kohima, including Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home, Jakhama Village, TM Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima Science College Jotsoma, Dapfütsumia Khel, St. Joseph’s College Jakhama, G. Rio, Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School and Meriema Village. These facilities have played an important role in encouraging young players and strengthening the club’s participation in tournaments. MCC is currently competing in the Masters Super League at Sovima Cricket Stadium in Chümoukedima district.

The programme was chaired by MCC general secretary Peteneizo Belho, with the welcome address by club president Vithatsolie Chielie. The event featured a musical performance by Khrielakuonuo Solo, a presentation by Kezhalezo Solo, and a vote of thanks delivered by treasurer Keneilhouzo Chielie.
