In the Nagaland Legislative Assembly today, MLA Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhutso called for the recognition of the state’s tribal languages to improve employment opportunities for Naga youths. Addressing the issue, he raised concerns that Naga youths were being left behind in recruitment processes, especially in the Postal Department’s lowest-grade service, Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS).
Dr Rhutso pointed out that although Nagaland recognizes 17 tribal languages, the absence of a designated common language has led to non-indigenous candidates filling over 90 percent of GDS vacancies.
The MLA urged the state government to pass a resolution recognizing tribal languages in recruitment, ensuring that GDS vacancies are reserved for indigenous Naga people, thus providing better opportunities for the local workforce.
