MMC mandates proper labeling for 20-litre bottled drinking water from February 1

In the interest of public health and consumer safety, the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) has issued a notification directing that no bottling unit, RO water plant, company, distributor or seller shall sell or supply 20-litre bottled drinking water within the municipal jurisdiction without proper labeling and clear mention of the date of manufacture and other mandatory particulars.

According to the order, all 20-litre bottled water containers sold within the jurisdiction of the MMC must strictly comply with prescribed standards, including the name and address of the bottling unit or company, date of manufacture, batch or lot number, and any other statutory requirements.

The notification stated that any person, firm or company found violating the order shall be liable to penal action as per the relevant rules, regulations and provisions in force.

The order will come into effect from 1 February 2026 and shall remain in force until further orders. All concerned have been directed to comply strictly with the notification.

The order was issued by Atsungba Walling, ADC and Chief Executive Officer, Mokokchung Municipal Council.
