Mokokchung, October 7 (MTNews): In view of the issues and challenges relating to sanitation and management of wastes within Mokokchung municipality and also due to rapid increase in the volume of wastes generated, the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) has directed all the ward authorities to monitor and check that the wastes collected from every household are segregated into 3 (three) categories i.e. Wet wastes, Recyclable wastes and Non-recyclable wastes respectively.
“While every household is encouraged to practice home-composting to take care of wet/kitchen wastes, recyclable wastes like plastics, papers, e-wastes etc must be deposited at the MMC Material Recovery Facility (MRF). Only the remaining non-recyclable wastes must be left for door-to-door collections and dumped at MMC dumping site,” the order read.
The MMC further reminded that the Sanitation Committee of each Ward must diligently monitor and enforce the above mentioned practices of waste management in their respective wards.
All the ward authorities have also been reminded to encourage those households with sufficient land areas to maintain proper compost pits compulsorily.
