The Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) has penalized six labourers, including a Muttiah Sardar, after detecting what it described as an inflated labour claim related to the transportation of a light post under its jurisdiction.
According to an official report issued by MMC Enforcement Inspector Moasunep, the amount claimed for the work carried out by six individuals was found to be excessive and not in accordance with rates fixed by the Council.
MMC stated that penalties ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 were imposed on the individuals involved, and that instructions had been issued to prevent recurrence of such practices in future municipal works.
The Council also warned concerned persons to maintain transparency and submit genuine labour charges in future.
