The Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) has once again issued a reminder to all shopkeepers and business establishments within its jurisdiction to refrain from stocking goods or materials on footpaths and roads.

In a fresh directive issued by ADC & Chief Executive Officer Chumlamo Humtsoe, the MMC referred to its earlier office order dated March 4, 2022, which had prohibited the display or stocking of items on footpaths and roads, citing obstruction to public movement and increased traffic congestion.

“All the shopkeepers/business establishments are hereby reminded again that the display or stocking of goods/materials outside the shop/business establishment- especially on footpaths, drains and other public spaces, is strictly prohibited within Mokokchung Municipal jurisdiction,” the notification read.

Despite the previous order, the MMC noted that several business establishments continue to violate the regulation, leading to persistent inconvenience to pedestrians and worsening traffic conditions in the town.

The MMC has now directed all businesses to comply with the standing order with immediate effect. The notice warned that any failure to adhere to the directive will attract penalties and action as per relevant provisions of law.
