Mokokchung, 4 May (MTNews): In the pursuit of making Mokokchung a clean urban hub, the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) has been undertaking various proactive measures in recent years. Notably, the MMC is now pursuing the ideal of making Mokokchung a ‘garbage-free city’. To this end, the MMC has distributed dustbins free of cost to the shop owners of the town.

According to the MMC, the distribution of dustbins is aimed at augmenting proper waste management. “In the interest of public service and in order to enhance proper management of waste within the jurisdiction of Mokokchung Town, the Mokokchung Municipal Council distributed free dustbins to shop owners sanctioned under 15 FC Tied Grant 2024,” the MMC posted on its official social media platforms on Saturday.
Earlier in the day, MMC staff were seen distributing the dustbins to shop owners in the Salangtem New Market area.
The MMC further aims to ‘demolish’ all waste collection structures in the town after this.
“Subsequently, after the distribution of the dustbins, all the waste collection structures (dumping boxes) within the town shall be demolished in order to make Mokokchung town a garbage-free city,” the MMC stated in its update.
“This is also in accordance with the resolution adopted at a meeting between All Ward chairmen and MMC,” it added.
