The Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) has announced that the 52nd edition of the Inter-Ward Christmas Cake Race will be held on December 24, 2025, from 6:00 AM onward at the Main Police Point. The annual event, organized during the festive season, invites all wards within the municipal area to participate in what has become one of Mokokchung’s longstanding Christmas traditions.

In its circular, MMC encouraged every ward to join the event “with a spirit of joy and peace,” while also outlining participation guidelines for competing teams. The race is open only to bona fide residents of the respective wards under Mokokchung Municipality. Each team must consist of 12 runners, including 2 girls and 10 boys, with the first two runners required to be female participants.

Participant name lists, duly signed by ward authorities and accompanied by valid residential permits, must be submitted to the Technical Committee by December 20. All runners are required to report at the Main Police Point at 5:30 AM on race day. MMC has clarified that military and other uniformed personnel will not be permitted to participate.

The rules also state that lane crossing by receiving partners and throwing of batons will lead to disqualification. Chest numbers will be assigned through a draw of lots.

Prizes will include certificates and cakes for the first, second and third place winners, while all participating teams will receive cakes as consolation prizes. MMC further noted that in case of disputes, the decision of the organizers will be final.
