The Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) has issued a public notice warning commercial establishments in Mokokchung town against the unauthorised use of domestic LPG cylinders for commercial purposes.
ADC & Chief Executive Officer, MMC, Atsungba Walling informed that “it has come to the notice of the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), that certain commercial establishments within Mokokchung town are engaged in the unauthorised use of domestic LPG cylinders (14.2 kg) for commercial purposes.”
The public and all concerned stakeholders have been reminded of Clause 3(c) of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Order, 2000, which “clearly stipulates that domestic LPG cylinders are strictly meant for domestic consumption and prohibited from being used for any commercial.”
Further, the order states that contravention of the regulation is punishable under Section 7 (1) (a) (ii) of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.
In the interest of public safety and strict compliance with the law, the notice stated that:
1. “All commercial establishments, including hotels, restaurants, bakeries, tea stalls, canteens and other business entities operating within Mokokchung Municipal jurisdiction, shall use only commercial LPG cylinders supplied by authorised distributors for commercial activities.”
2. “The use of domestic LPG cylinders (14.2 kg) for any commercial purpose is strictly prohibited.”
3. “Any violation of this order shall invite penal action as per the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, in addition to sealing of the establishment, imposition of fines, cancellation of Trade Permit and other actions as deemed fit by the competent authority.”
The MMC has cautioned that stringent action will be taken against violators to ensure public safety and adherence to legal provisions.
