Kohima, March 9 (MTNews): Model Christian College on October 7, 2023 commemorated in advance the International Women’s Day under the IWD2023 theme ‘DigitALL: Innovations and Technology for Gender Equality’ at the College Auditorium.
Kedozolie Nagi, assistant professor and HOD, Geography Department was the speaker for the event.
Nagi highlighted and presented the different objectives under the theme which include protecting the rights of women in digital spaces; ensuring equal distribution of power, opportunities and responsibilities in all spheres of life; and making the internet accessible for women.
He also highlighted the different scholarships and schemes available for women and girl students. Addressing the gender gaps Nagi commented that “The balance is heavily tilted towards men, some societies treat women as inferior.”
He concluded with a challenge posed to the attendees “To rise above social taboos and social constraints and to be drivers for social change in bridging the gender gaps.”
Coordinator of Women Cell, Assistant Professor, Thethem Hangsing gave a welcome address, while Arhoni Y.Ezung, Women Co-ordinator, MCCSU proposed vote of thanks.
