Mokokchung, 18 December (MTNews): The first ever 3×3 Basketball tournament in Mokokchung held on the 15th and 16th of December organized by Zungia & Tepenjem Basketball Club in partnership with Nagaland Basketball Association themed “fortress against substance abuse.” The event took place at the Basketball Association Mokokchung District (BAMD) Basketball Court, Imkongmeren Sports Complex.
In the Men’s category, Team Z and Team Mashi Mashi emerged as the champion and runners-up respectively while in the Women’s category team Anishi and the Alley Oop Troop emerged as the champion and runners-up respectively.
“The Tepenjem Basketball club would like to thank the Zungia team for taking up the initiative in organizing such a meaningful event in order to promote the sport and also giving opportunity, platform to the young players to showcase their talents,” a statement said.
The Tepenjem basketball club also conveyed special thanks to Mr Panger Walling for sponsoring the Women’s 1st prize and Prof. Bendang Walling for sponsoring the Women’s 2nd prize and the Zungia for sponsoring both the prizes for the Men’s category. The club also acknowledged the Nagaland Basketball Association.
“The main objective of the event is to fulfill the unfilled-on area of basketball by nurturing the younger generation through this kind of micro-events which is better known as seed events,” it said.
“The Zungia and Tepenjem call upon the citizens of the town to come forward and invest their goodwill gestures through whatever they can by organizing such events to create ample opportunities for the youngsters, keeping in mind that good things come in small packages,” it added.
