A 27-year-old man has been arrested in Mokokchung after a 20-year-old woman from Sungkomen Ward, Mokokchung lodged a complaint alleging rape. The incident reportedly took place on September 30, 2025, after the two came into contact through Facebook.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the complainant stated that the accused, who had befriended her on social media, contacted her through audio calls and insisted on meeting despite her refusal. She alleged that the man later came to her residence and forced himself upon her against her will. In her statement, she said the incident left her in “shock, stress and trauma.”
Police confirmed that the accused was arrested shortly after the complaint was lodged and has been forwarded to judicial custody.
A case has been registered at the Mokokchung Women Police Station vide Mkg WPS C/NO-0005/25 under Sections 64 and 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the matter has been taken up for thorough investigation.
A police official informed that the matter is being pursued with seriousness, and necessary legal procedures are underway. “The case is under investigation and strict action will be taken as per the law,” the official said.
The case also highlights growing concerns over online safety, as the initial contact between the survivor and the accused reportedly began on Facebook.
