The inaugural ceremony for the 2nd edition of the Inter-Departmental Sports Tournament 2024 was held on October 3 at the Multi-Sports Complex, Mokokchung. The event began with an invocation by Father Sajimon, Parish Priest and Principal of Queen Mary Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung.
In his welcome address, the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung expressed his gratitude to all attendees and emphasized the importance of such events, which provide an opportunity for government employees to relax and take a break from their busy work schedules. He noted that despite working in the same town, many employees do not know each other well due to their hectic routines. He hoped that this tournament would foster camaraderie, allowing participants to bond and build better relationships over the course of the three-day event.
Phoji said that such events bring together employees from different departments irrespective of their designation thus creating an atmosphere to interact in a casual setting. He also urged the participants to take this opportunity to forge friendship during the event so that better coordination can be maintained between the departments for the betterment of the district.
He wished all departments and players the best of luck and encouraged them to embrace a spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood.
The ceremony featured a special musical performance by students from Fazl Ali College, which was followed by greetings from Aowati Ozukum, Vice President of Ao Senden. In his remarks, Ozukum expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to speak and called for the tournament to serve as an inspiration not only for the departments but for the people of Mokokchung as a whole. He envisioned a future where Mokokchung teams could compete in both national and international tournaments. He urged the community to come together to help Mokokchung reclaim its title as the “Land of Pioneers.”
The championship trophy was officially handed over by the District Executive Force, Mokokchung, who were the champions of the 1st edition of the Inter-Departmental Sports Tournament in 2023.
The oath-taking ceremony was led by Anguvito Sumi, District Sports Officer and Secretary of the organizing committee. The oath emphasized the commitment of participants to abide by the rules and regulations of the games, to compete with a true spirit of sportsmanship, and to honor their departments and the glory of sports.
The program was chaired by Imyapangla, Project Director of DRDA Mokokchung.
The three-day event will feature competitions in the following sports disciplines: Table tennis, Carom, Arm wrestling, Chess, and Badminton.
