The much awaited Winter Night Carnival got underway here this evening with Imnaonen Pongen, President of Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem, attending its inauguration ceremony as special guest, organized by the Adventure and Motorsports Association Mokokchung (AMAM).
Imnaonen Pongen, commended AMAM and lauded their initiative in organizing the carnival. He said that everyone had been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years in some way, and that we are still only just beginning to recover. The few days of celebration, he continued, “will once again infuse the citizens with a feeling of brotherhood, and I hope that the carnival will be a stepping stone for everyone to rise up from the ashes of the pandemic and rebuild our town. The carnival will heal our hearts and souls.”
He advised AMAM to keep up their wonderful job and, if practical, hold such carnivals during other holidays like Moatsu, Tsüngremmung and other events. He also suggested the MMC, if they can identify the enterprising youths and encourage them by giving licenses and exploring ways and means to open their own stalls in and around the town throughout the year so that it can lessen unemployment and ultimately lead to a self- reliant and prosperous society.
Moasashi Jamir, President, AMAM in his welcome address said that the main objective of organizing the carnival was to let people of Mokokchung come out of their cozy beds and warm fireplaces and enjoy the myriad of food, games and all other activities that the carnival has to offer and to make the air of festivity merrier where families and friends can come and have a gala time.
The Winter Night Carnival will take place from December 14–17, 2022, and will begin at 6:00 p.m. each evening at main town Police Point.
