Anglers Association Mokokchung holds 8th annual AGM-cum-angling competition

The declining fish population in Nagaland’s rivers and the potential for angling tourism in the state came into focus at the 8th Annual General Meeting-cum-Angling Competition of the Anglers Association Mokokchung (AAM) held at Nukra Compound, Longmisa Road, on Friday.

AAM raises concern over

Speaking at the program, AAM executive member S Bur Jamir spoke on the evolution of angling in the country and the Northeast, while expressing concern over the declining fish population in Nagaland’s rivers. He said neighbouring countries such as Nepal and Bhutan had utilised angling as a tourism opportunity and suggested that Nagaland could explore similar potential if its fish populations and water bodies were properly preserved.

Jamir encouraged members to contribute towards the preservation of fish and water resources, saying that conservation could help sustain angling and create opportunities for tourism in the future. He also acknowledged the association’s office bearers for their work.

AAM president Lima Kichu, while briefing the gathering on the association’s activities during its recent tenure, said AAM represented Mokokchung at the 8th Nagaland Angling Competition 2026 with three participants, with their participation sponsored by the association. He also informed that one of its members secured a prize at the state-level competition.

During the tenure, AAM also organised its 7th Open Angling Competition at Aliba Shiyong Dam on August 8, 2026, besides undertaking other activities.

The angling competition held alongside the AGM was won by S Bur Jamir for securing the biggest catch. Bendangnungsang secured second position, while Maong and Sunep received the first and second consolation prizes respectively.

Founded in 2016 under the motto “Reeling for Sustainability”, AAM currently has around 140 members.
