Mokokchung and Peren districts joined the global community in observing World Hypertension Day under the theme “Measure your blood pressure accurately, control it, live longer” in mid-May 2025. The events aimed to raise awareness about hypertension and other non-communicable diseases (NCDs), their risk factors, and preventive measures.

In Mokokchung, the observance took place on May 17 at the CMO Conference Hall and across all health units in the district. Dr. Limanaro, District Programme Officer (UIP & RCH), highlighted the significance of accurate blood pressure monitoring and emphasized understanding the causes and risk factors leading to high blood pressure. She urged the public to adopt preventive steps to maintain healthy lives.


To sustain momentum, Mokokchung District has launched a month-long NCD screening campaign from May 17 to June 16, 2025. Residents are encouraged to visit their nearest health unit to participate in this special screening drive.

Meanwhile, in Peren district, the District Health Society marked the occasion on May 16 at Samzuiram Village. Dr. Viholi, Zonal Level Officer (ZLO), stressed the importance of managing diabetes, highlighting its risk factors and prevention strategies. She also spoke about hypertension symptoms, treatment options, and the benefits of regular physical exercise.


Dr. Viholi advised reducing salt and oil intake and emphasized the importance of diets rich in fruits and vegetables. She further discussed cancer causes and treatments, advocating for the avoidance of alcohol and tobacco to improve overall health.

The Peren program screened 46 individuals for blood sugar and blood pressure and provided counselling to promote health and prevent NCDs. The event was attended by health officials, ASHAs, and other support staff.
