Seven athletes from Mokokchung, including four girls and three boys, along with their coach and manager, have reached Ahmedabad in Gujarat to participate in the 19th edition of the National Inter-District Junior Athletics Meet (NIDJAM) to be held at Sardar Patel Sports City, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad.
Mokokchung is the only district from Nagaland participating in the event scheduled to be held from 16 to 18 February, organized by the Athletics Federation of India in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Gujarat. The three-day event will see 5,558 athletes from 615 districts participating in the under-14 and under-16 age groups.
The athletes from Mokokchung are Arenmen Longkumlar, Imnasenla, and Toshiwapang Longkumer, who will be competing in the 60m race; Lochum Kikon, who will be competing in the 600m race; and Nangpongmeren, Imlinungba Kichu, and Imtijungla Longchar, who will be competing in the Long Jump event.
Imchatsung and Joythy Pongener are accompanying the young athletes as coach and manager, respectively.
Only those District Athletics Associations that have conducted their district athletics meet are eligible to participate.
