Mokokchung Athletics has announced the list of athletes selected to represent the district at the 2nd Nagaland Junior Athletics Championship 2025, which will take place at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, on September 10.

A total of 20 athletes have been selected, comprising 15 boys and 5 girls.

In the Under-14 category, the selected athletes include Lanutemjen Kichu, Arenlong Tzudir, Lanuonen Jamir, Imliwar Jamir, Tsukjenlemba Pongen, Naromenla, Sungjemyongla Jamir, and Moakala, who will compete across different triathlon events.

The Under-16 category features Imlinungba, Imjungsunep Pongen, Sentizulu Pongen, and Lemba Angh from the boys’ side, with Meyijung T Jamir being the only girl athlete in the category. They will take part in track and field disciplines including 60m, 600m, high jump, long jump, and shot put.

From the Under-18 category, Tiasunep, Toshiwapang Longkumer, Lanusucha, Talimeim Jamir, Ikagho, and Sentionen Jamir will represent the boys, while Imnasenla will compete in the 100m and 200m events for the girls.

The Association extended its congratulations to all participants of the recently concluded Mokokchung District Junior Athletics Meet 2025, appreciating their sportsmanship and commitment. It further commended the athletes who have made it through the selection process and will now carry the district’s hopes to the state-level competition.

Meanwhile, the Mokokchung Athletics Association has made a fervent appeal to well-wishers and supporters for financial assistance. The Association said that while the Nagaland Athletics headquarters will provide only to-and-fro fares for the participants, expenses for food, lodging, uniforms, tracksuits, and local transport have to be borne by the district association. Parents of the athletes have also agreed to contribute, but the Association said it is still short by about Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000.

“I appeal to the members here to kindly contribute whatever little you can so that our children can go and take part in the meet. Thanking you all on behalf of them,” a member of the Association shared in social media groups.
